Montgelin - Beaujolais, France
This charming B&B is located in the Pierres Dorrées or Golden Stones region of south Beaujolais, France and is used during our independent walking holiday - medieval village tour. It is also one of a number of guest houses that could be used on our guided walking holiday in the Beaujolais region.
The Mongelin guest house is located in a tiny hamlet of the same name in the heart of the southern Beaujolais surrounded by vines, in proximity to Oingt. In this wonderful spot, Ann Matagrin will reserve you an especially warm welcome in their rustic historic house located in the parish of St Laurent d'Oingt in the Pierre Dorrées or golden stones region. Montgelin is a guest house full of character, perfect for welcoming guests on our French walking holidays. This a renovated 19th century farm house built from the local limestone and is typical of this part of Beaujolais. The farm consists of the main building plus barns and wine cellar. There are three ensuite bedrooms each with their own character. Access to the dining area and rooms is independent and to the rear. Comfortable, yet original, this small guest house is a relaxing place to stay. Enjoy the secluded and peaceful setting of the garden underneath the beautiful village of Oingt (classed as one of the prettiest villages in France) which sits on the ridge-top above. I'ts a lovely spot to relax after a day's walking and exploring in the French Beaujolais region. Breakfast is a chance to enjoy local jams, special country bread, freshly pressed fruit juice and other "gourmandises" that will set you up nicely for your day's walking. They provide lovely evening meals, where you can try a number of local regional dishes as well as some classic French meals. During your meal, your hosts will take great pleasure in giving you insights into the Beaujolais region of France. You may well be sharing the large dining table with other guests from all over the world, often walkers, adding to the fun and interest. Wine provided with the four course meal helps the evenings to tick along nicely. Ann will make you feel very welcome from the moment you arrive. She speaks very good English as she has Scottish relatives. She is a local 'guide de Pays', which is a local guide and is extremely knowledgable about the history of the area and its villages. She has set up the B&B to be especially welcoming to walkers. After your stay at Mongelin, your route on this self-guided or independent walking holiday takes you up to the historic village of Oingt. Take the time to explore the narrow cobbled streets of this historic village which affords amazing views of the High Beaujolais and Mont Lyonnais. The tour then continues by passing through the village of Theizé. Comments from our guests about Montgelin include: "Montgelin was outstanding due to the friendliness and helpfulness of hosts" Ross & Anne As well as being an integral part of our walking holidays in France we would be happy to book this guest house for you as part of your independent sightseeing trip.
