castel de VALrose, beaujolais
This elegant and charming B&B is located on the edge of the Beaujolais region of France and is sometimes used (subject to availability) for several nights during our guided walking holiday Beaujolais Discovery.
Castel de ValRose is located on the edge of the village of Montemerle on the banks of the Saône river. In this peaceful setting on the edge of the French wine growing region of Beaujolais, Michel will reserve you a warm welcome in his beautiful and original guest house. It is a magnificent place to relax, take in the views and forget about life back home during your guided walking holiday in France. Castel de Valrose is a large house built in 1925 in true art deco style by an industrialist from Lyon, as his second home. Its history since this time has been colourful to say the least, for a period becoming a headquarters for the occupying German forces during the second world war. The house was also used as a gastronomic restaurant before being abandoned for a long period, until Michel fell in love with the property. Lovingly restored, Castel de Valrose has refound its past elegance and charm. Castel de Valrose is an immaculate property that has been decorated with love and attention to detail. Classic decor and furnishings show off the large and airy rooms. The guest house has four individually finished large en-suite bedrooms, with one acting as a suite with two independent rooms. The decoration is original and tasteful throughout as you can see from the photos opposite. Downstairs there is a wonderful reception room with fire, which is a lovely space to relax before or after your day's walking with a beer or a glass of juice. There is also a large dining room where meals and breakfast is served and a wonderful indoor swimming pool with access out to the front garden. To the rear there is an enclosed courtyard for parking full of wonderfully scented flowers. Meals can be reserved at the Castel de Valrose. They are delicious and refined in the manor of the guest house, served with quality wine. Its location between the Bresse region famed for its chicken and the gastronomic Lyon/Beaujolais region inspires great local cuisine. Built in rural surroundings, Castel de Valrose now lies on the edge of the village of Montmerle sur Saone. The banks of this large peaceful river are only a minute's walk away and make an excellent place for a stroll in the evening or just to relax and watch the wildlife. There are bars, cafés and a restaurant in the small village. From your guest house its a short drive to the Beaujolais hills which can be seen from the village. The Castel de Valrose is a quality guest house full of character, perfect for welcoming guests on our French walking holidays. It marries perfectly the refinement and quality of a grand hotel with the warmth, character and hospitality of a small B&B style guest house.
The Castel de Valrose is a favourite guest house when we use it on our guided walking holiday in the Beaujolais As well as being an integral part of our walking holidays in France we would be happy to book this guest house for you as part of your independent sightseeing trip.
